Nargis made her role debut in the film Taqdeer with co-star Motilal in 1943 while she was only 14. Nargis starred in different famous Hindi films of the 1940s and 1950s, such as Barsaat, Andaz, Awaara, Deedar, Shree 420, and Chori Chori. Nargis was featured in Mehboob Khan’s Oscar-nominated film Mother India in 1957, for which she won the best actress Filmfare award. Nargis was married to Sunil Dutt in 1958, and this couple was blessed with a son Sanjay Dutt and two daughters named Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt. Before Sunil Dutt married, Nargis was in a relationship with well-known actor Raj Kapoor.
When Raj Kapoor refused to divorce his wife, both decided to live separately. Nargis suffered from cancer, and after a complex war with cancer, she finally died on May 3, 1981. Nargi’s guidance was so much that a street in Mumbai has been named after her death, Nargis Dutt Road. Nargis was suffering from pancreatic cancer and had treatment for cancer in New York. When Nargis returned to India, she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
Nargis lived in a coma on 2 May 1981 and died the next day on 3 May 1981. After marriage to actor Sunil Dutt in 1958, Nargis left her film career after her last few films aired to settle down with her family. Nargis made her last film in the 1967 film Raat Aur Din for which she won a National Film Award for the best actress, the first actress to succeed in this category.
